Agreeing to these terms
By using this website you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. In this document, "we", "us" and "our" mean the publisher of GlaadBlog.org, and "you" means anyone reading, linking to, or otherwise using it.
These terms work alongside two other documents, and all three should be read together: the medical disclaimer, which governs how the clinical content may be relied on, and the privacy policy, which governs your data. Where the medical disclaimer is stricter than these terms about clinical reliance, the disclaimer wins.
Acceptable use of GlaadBlog.org
You may read, print, save and share anything we publish, for personal or classroom use.
You may not:
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site at a rate that degrades it for other readers, or use automated tools to harvest content for a competing publication or a training corpus without written permission;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its hosting, its mailboxes or any connected system, or probe it for vulnerabilities without contacting us first;
- introduce malware, attempt denial-of-service, or interfere with how the site works for anyone else;
- use our content, name or design to imply that we endorse a product, clinic, practitioner or treatment, or to give the impression that a commercial service is affiliated with us;
- present our material as clinical advice to a specific person, or incorporate it into anything that diagnoses, triages or treats;
- use the site for anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing or fraudulent.
We may restrict or block access where any of the above happens. If you think you have found a security issue, tell us through the contact page before you tell anyone else and we will work with you.
Intellectual property and republishing
All text, structure, editorial illustrations, layout, code and design on GlaadBlog.org are owned by us or licensed to us, and are protected by copyright. Photographs are licensed stock images: our licence covers their use on this site and does not extend to you.
Our guides may not be republished. That means no copying a page onto another site, no rewriting it lightly and publishing it as original, no syndication, no PDF compilations, no distribution as course material for sale, and no feeding the archive into a product that regurgitates it. This is not territorial fussiness: duplicated health content strips out the review trail described in our editorial policy, and a reader who lands on a stale copy has no way of knowing which clinician checked it or when.
What you may do without asking:
- Quote us. Short extracts - a sentence or a short paragraph - with clear attribution to GlaadBlog.org and a working link to the page you took them from.
- Link to us. Any page, freely, provided the link does not suggest an endorsement or affiliation that does not exist. You may not frame our pages inside your own site or strip out our branding.
- Use it in teaching. Print a page for a class, a waiting room or a patient conversation. Keep the attribution and the review date visible.
Anything beyond that - translation, reproduction of a full guide, commercial use - needs written permission first. Ask at hello@glaadblogsorg.com; we usually say yes to non-commercial requests that keep attribution intact.
Your submissions and feedback
When you send us a correction, a question, a source or a suggestion through the contact page, you keep ownership of what you wrote, but you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use it to improve the site - including acting on a correction and describing the change in a page's revision note.
We will not publish your name or your message without asking you first. You confirm that what you send is yours to send, that it is not confidential patient information, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights. Please do not send clinical details or images of your mouth; the medical disclaimer explains why we cannot act on them.
Feedback is not compensated, and sending us an idea does not create any obligation, partnership or confidentiality relationship between us.
Third-party links and sources
We cite outside bodies so that you can check our work - organisations such as the American Dental Association and the systematic reviews indexed in the Cochrane Library.
Those sites are independent of us. We do not control their content or availability, we are not responsible for what they publish or for any dealings you have with them, and a link is not an endorsement of an organisation's entire output. Their terms and privacy policies apply once you arrive.
No warranties
The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
In plain terms: we work hard to be accurate, and our review process is described openly on the about page, but we do not guarantee that every statement is complete, current or error-free, that the site will always be available, or that any described treatment will produce a particular result for you. Outcomes in dentistry depend on the patient, the operator and the case.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of profit, data, goodwill or opportunity, arising from your use of - or inability to use - this site or anything you read on it. This includes decisions about treatment made in reliance on our content, which is exactly what the medical disclaimer asks you not to do.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you; the rest still does.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless GlaadBlog.org, its publisher, writers and clinical reviewers against any claim, loss, liability or reasonable legal cost arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site, or your republication of our content in a way these terms do not permit.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, and the courts of that state have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your home jurisdiction, and nothing here removes your right to bring a claim there where local law says you may.
Note for the site owner
The jurisdiction above is a placeholder that follows the address in the site configuration. Replace it with the jurisdiction of the entity that actually owns GlaadBlog.org, and have counsel confirm it before launch. Any arbitration or class-action-waiver clause should be drafted by that counsel rather than adapted from a template.
Severability and waiver
If any provision of these terms is held invalid or unenforceable, it is severed and the remaining provisions stay in force. If we do not enforce a term straight away, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later. These terms, with the privacy policy and the medical disclaimer, are the whole agreement between us about your use of the site.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the site changes or the law does. The revision date at the top of the page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be flagged on the page for at least 30 days. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms; if you do not, stop using the site.
Content itself changes more often than these terms do. Guides are revised, re-dated and re-checked on the cycle set out in our editorial policy, and the guides hub shows when each page was last reviewed.
